Joliet, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Big Guns Classic Friday in Joliet, Ill., falling in three games to host St. Francis 18-30, 20-30, 19-30 in the first match before dropping the second to Cornerstone University (Mich.) in three games 13-30, 24-30, 10-30. SXU falls to 7-27 overall with the pair of losses.

In the first match against St. Francis (Ill.), sophomore Jessica Buchmeier (Steger, Ill./Bloom Trail) and junior Carrie Mockovak (Burbank, Ill./Queen of Peace) each finished with 10 kills for the Cougars. Sophomore Amber Hynek (Calumet City, Ill./Andrean) turned in a team-high 16 digs in the losing effort. In SXU's second match of the night, freshman Kate Eckoff (Grant Park, Ill./Grant Park) led the offensive attack with 11 kills, while junior Stephanie Huppenthal (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) had 15 digs.

Saint Xavier continues action at the Big Guns Classic Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Iowa Wesleyan College and a 12:30 p.m. match against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
