Rock Island, Ill. - A 32nd place finish by freshman Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) in a field of 376 runners helped lead the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team to a ninth place team finish out of the 33 teams competing at Friday's Brissman-Lundeen Cross Country Invitational hosted by the Augustana College (Ill.) in Rock Island, Ill. The Cougars finished with 325 points overall against a variety of levels of collegiate competition, including teams from NCAA Division I, II, and III in addition to the NAIA.
Dentzman finished the 6,000-meter (6K) course with a time of 23:16 to lead the Cougars. Team scoring finishers for Saint Xavier included: freshman Amanda Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) at No. 45 with a time of 23:42, freshman Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) at No. 50 overall with a time of 23:49, freshman Megan Syring (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) at No. 119 in 25:10; and freshman Nicolle Bartels (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) concluded the scoring at No. 137 with a time of 25:29. Other runners for SXU Friday included: sophomore Marianne Lopez (Chicago, Ill./Washington) at No. 143 with a 25:34 clocking, sophomore Alison Schultz (Tinley Park, Ill./Bradley University) at No. 187 with a time of 26:23, and junior Jessica Mossuto (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) at No. 207 in 26:45.
"I'm very proud of the way the team ran this weekend against some very tough competition," said first-year Saint Xavier University women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel. "Due to a fast course, our times were excellent and I thought the team placed well against a strong field."
SXU heads to downtown Chicago on Saturday, September 30, to take part in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, which takes place at Montrose Avenue Beach. The 5,000-meter women's race kicks off at 11:45 a.m.Click here for meet results.
