CHICAGO - Modestas Masiulionis, a senior guard at Lemont High School in Lemont, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's basketball program. The Lemont, Ill., native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2010 and compete for playing time on the court during the 2010-11 season.
Masiulionis transferred to Lemont prior to his senior season and the 6'3" guard averaged 15.3 points, 2.2 assists and 1.5 rebounds per game in his one season for head coach Rick Runaas' squad. He ranked among area leaders shooting 54 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free-throw line. Masiulionis also shot 52 treys at a 41 percent shooting clip from long range. He helped the Indians improve to an 8-17 record in 2009-10, including a 4-9 mark in the South Suburban Conference. Masiulionis was also named an All-SSC Blue selection and a Lemont Reporter/Met all-area honoree this past season.
"Modestas is a tall guard, who has impressive range from the outside," said SXU men's basketball coach Tom O'Malley. "He comes from a solid program at Lemont and I expect him to come right in and contribute immediately. I think Modestas will have a great career at Saint Xavier University."
