St. Augustine, Fla. - Outside of a two-run homer in the top of the first inning by senior second baseman Matt Mueller (Burbank, Ill./Reavis), the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University baseball team could not muster any further offense and fell, 22-2, Friday afternoon to NCAA Division II Flagler College (Fla.) at Flagler Stadium in St. Augustine, Fla. The Cougars (6-4 overall) gave up 23 hits over the nine-inning affair with Flagler scoring at least a run in all but one of the innings. Junior right-hander Jeff Dobie (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) got the loss (0-1) on the mound for SXU throwing the first five innings and allowing 11 hits, 13 runs (five earned) and three walks with a strikeout.

Sophomore catcher Jim Pipolo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and freshman left fielder Tony O'Shea (Valparaiso, Ind./Mount Carmel) each finished with two hits apiece to lead the Cougar offense against Flagler. SXU totaled seven hits in the ballgame, but also committed five errors in the field, which led to only 10 of Flagler's 22 runs being earned. Senior right fielder Tony Testin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) also scored for the Cougars on the Mueller home run after reaching on a single to left field in the previous at-bat. Saint Xavier University (6-4 overall) returns to action on Saturday, March 6, taking on Ohio Dominican University (Ohio) in a doubleheader in Florida. The twinbill is scheduled for a 10 a.m. (eastern) start.
