CHICAGO - Despite 14 kills and 30 digs by Jessica Buchmeier (Steger, Ill./Bloom Trail) over two matches, the Saint Xavier University volleyball team fell twice in the opening day of the SXU Cougar Invitational II Friday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars dropped their first match to Illinois Institute of Technology in four games 30-26, 17-30, 25-30, 23-30. Freshman Kate Eckoff (Grant Park, Ill./Grant Park) finished the match with 10 kills, while Buchmeier recorded a team-high 18 digs.

In Saint Xavier's second match of the tournament, Grand View College (Iowa) took control early and never let up en route to a three-game match win 24-30, 28-30, 26-30. Buchmeier finished with team-highs in kills (11) and digs (12). Junior Carrie Mockovak (Burbank, Ill./Queen of Peace) also turned in a nice performance over the two matches for SXU with 13 kills.
