Westville, Ind. - Sophomore pitcher Ryan Quigley (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) allowed just one hit and no runs over seven innings to earn the complete game shutout as the Saint Xavier University baseball team won its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) game of the season with a 12-0 road victory over Purdue University-North Central Friday in Westville, Ind. Quigley (4-1) struck out eight PUNC batters as SXU improved to 11-11 overall this season and 1-0 in league play.
Saint Xavier got plenty of offensive help from its bats as well with junior shortstop Brendan Christy (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) leading the way going 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Sophomore second baseman Craig Buske (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) also had a good game at the plate hitting 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Sophomore Nick Tantillo (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) had a key, three-RBI double to help fuel the winning effort. SXU finished with 16 team hits en route to its 12-run output.
Saint Xavier continues its CCAC slate on Tuesday, April 5, with a nine-inning home game against University of St. Francis (Ill.). Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
