CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior wide receiver Jarrod Nowman (Manteno, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and sophomore cornerback Tom Regnier (Manteno, Ill./Bishop McNamara) swept the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, after exceptional individual performances in the Cougars' fourth quarter rally win Saturday on homecoming. SXU scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to defeat MSFA opponent William Penn University, 25-21, at SXU stadium in Chicago.

Nowman finished Saturday's game with seven catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. He scored his lone touchdown with 9:30 remaining in regulation to trim the William Penn lead to three, 21-18, on a 29-yard pass from junior quarterback John Perryman (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards). In addition, Nowman caught a 27-yard pass on a 4th-and-6 situation with just over four minutes left in the game to keep a drive alive that eventually led to SXU's go-ahead touchdown. He also returned three punts for 16 yards.

William Penn had a shot to win it in the closing seconds driving 56 yards down the field with just 40 seconds remaining in the game, but Regnier came up big defensively for Saint Xavier batting away two William Penn passes in the endzone. He finished the game with four tackles (three solo, one assist), a tackle for loss of five yards and two pass break-ups.

The Cougars (3-2 overall, 1-0 MSFA) head to Lebanon, Ill., on Saturday, October 9, to face conference foe McKendree College (Ill.). Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
