Women's Basketball - Tue, Nov. 16, 2004
CHICAGO - A lay-up by Trinity Christian's junior guard Jessica Eenigenburg with two seconds remaining in regulation gave the Trolls their first-ever victory over No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University Tuesday, 74-73, in non-conference women's basketball action at the Shannon Center in Chicago. SXU was led by senior forward Rachel Merkell (Munster, Ind./Munster) and junior forward Jacki DiMaggio (Bartlett, Ill./Glenbard North), who each finished with a team-high 16 points.

Freshman guard Sarah Wilson (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) was the only other Cougar to score in double figures in the game with 11 points. Both teams shot well in the first half with Trinity Christian shooting 50 percent (12-for-24) from the field and Saint Xavier totaling 49 percent (19-for-39), but SXU used its defense to force 18 Troll turnovers in the first half to help build a 40-34 halftime lead.

However, in the second half, Trinity Christian came out firing and was able to tie the game at 50-50 with 12:15 remaining in the game on a lay-up by Eenigenburg, who finished with a game-high 22 points. A lay-up by DiMaggio gave the Cougars back the lead, 52-50, with 11:28 to play and sparked an 18-5 run over the game's next five minutes to put SXU on top, 68-55. However, in the closing minutes, the defense in the post for Saint Xavier was nowhere to be found as Trinity Christian finished the game with a 19-5 run led by six lay-ups. SXU had eight turnovers in the last five minutes of regulation.

Saint Xavier (0-2 overall) heads to Grand Rapids, Mich., on Friday, November 19, to participate in the two-day Aquinas College (Mich.) Tournament. The Cougars will play Spalding University (Ky.) in day-one action at 6 p.m. (eastern).
