Lebanon, Ill. - Behind a game-high 24 points by senior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic), the No. 7 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team opened its 2009-10 season with a big 78-61 victory over McKendree University (Ill.) Saturday night in Lebanon, Ill. Hannemann shot an impressive 9-for-12 from the field in the game and also posted a team-high eight rebounds toward the winning effort.
Senior guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) was tough as well for the Cougars finishing with 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Junior point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) also had a big game for SXU with 13 points, six assists and five steals. The Cougars shot an impressive 62 percent (18-for-29) from the field in the second half to secure the victory after leading 34-21 at the half.
Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) heads downtown on Tuesday, November 10, to take on NCAA DIvision I University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) in exhibition play. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
