- Behind a 16th place overall finish by freshman Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest), the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team turned in a fourth-place team finish Saturday at the 2006 Olivet Nazarene University Tiger Cross Country Invitational in Bourbonnais, Ill. It was the first time this season that Poull has led the Cougars over the finish line. She posted a impressive time of 20:10 on the 5,000-meter (5K) course to lead the pack.
Freshman Laura Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) was next to finish for SXU posting a time of 20:18 to cross the finish line in 17th place. Freshman Amanda Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) was not far behind finishing in 25th place with a time of 20:34. Freshmen Megan Syring (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and Nicolle Bartels (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) completed the team scoring for the Cougars. Syring nabbed 32nd place with a time of 20:58, while Bartels finished just behind her at 33rd at 21:00. SXU completed the meet with a combined score of 116 points and finished behind meet champion Olivet Nazarene with 21 points, Taylor (Ind.) with 76 points, and Mount Mercy (Iowa) with 96 points.
Also running Saturday for SXU were sophomore Marianne Lopez (Chicago, Ill./Washington), who finished in 50th place with a time of 21:52, and sophomore Alison Schultz (Tinley Park, Ill./Bradley University) in 51st place at 21:57. Junior Jessica Mossuto (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) also competed for the Cougars and crossed the finish line at the 22:57 mark for a 69th place finish. The Cougars take a couple of weeks off before returning to action for the NAIA Region VII Cross Country Meet hosted by Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday, November 4.
