Deerfield, Ill. - Junior forward Jacki DiMaggio (Bartlett, Ill./Glenbard North) finished with a game-high 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds to lead No. 24 Saint Xavier University over Trinity International University (Ill.), 78-45, in non-conference women's basketball action Tuesday at the Meyer Sports Complex in Deerfield, Ill. The Cougars improved to 2-4 overall this season with the win, while TIU falls to 6-3.

In addition to DiMaggio, three other SXU players scored in double figures Tuesday. Junior guard Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) recorded 14 points, including four three-pointers. Senior forward Rachel Merkell (Munster, Ind./Munster) and sophomore guard Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./River Forest) each scored 12 points for the Cougars in the victory. Engleman also finished with team-highs of seven assists and six steals.

Saint Xavier took control from the onset and never looked back building a 16-point lead at halftime, 36-20, and kept the pressure on in the second half. The Cougar defense forced 40 TIU turnovers in the game aided by 25 steals and scored 34 of its 78 points off the Trinity International miscues. TIU shot 20 percent (5-for-25) in the first half and 27 percent (11-for-41) from the field in the game.

Saint Xavier returns to action on Sunday, November 28, to play NCAA Division I Valparaiso University (Ind.) at the Genesis Center in Gary, Ind. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
