Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University senior wide receiver Bill McKeon (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and senior linebacker Mike Lally (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, when the league released the honors early Monday afternoon. Both had impressive performances last Thursday in SXU's 26-13 season-opening victory over Bethel College (Tenn.) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
McKeon did a little of everything on offense for the Cougars finishing the game with two catches for 25 yards and eight rushes for 32 yards. Lally was all over the field on defense for Saint Xavier racking up 14 total tackles (10 solos), including two tackles for losses totaling three yards, and forcing a fumble. The SXU defense nearly pitched a shutout keeping Bethel off the scoreboard until the 6:37 mark of the fourth quarter.
Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) heads to Joliet, Ill., on Thursday, September 3, to take on former MSFA Midwest League rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a league crossover game. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Joliet Memorial Stadium. The game will also be featured as the "NAIA Game of the Week" by College Fanz Sports Network.
