CHICAGO - Hugo Mendez, a senior forward at Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, has recently signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. Mendez, a Chicago native, was coached by Adrian Calleros during his impressive prep career with the Caravan.
Mendez is the son of Abelardo and Maria Mendez of Chicago. He plans to pursue a degree in education at Saint Xavier University. SXU men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic feels Mendez has the tools to make the Cougars more aggressive up front.
"I'm very happy that Hugo decided to become a part of our program," said Vucinic. "Juice (his nickname) will give us a strong option up front and he is good in and around the penalty area fighting for loose balls and creating chances from relentless hard work and pressure. He will also be a great target for us coming out of the back."
