CHICAGO -- Saint Xavier University senior defensive end Chris Kooistra (Chicago, Ill./Marist) was named a NAIA Second Team All-American defensive lineman by Don Hansen's Football Gazette when the preseason teams were announced recently by the weekly publication. In addition, senior wide receiver Jarrod Nowman (Manteno, Ill./Bishop McNamara), senior defensive back Matt Derry (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) and sophomore running back Luke Schillo (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) were all named as 2004 Preseason Honorable Mention All-Americans in their respective positions. "Chris is like a silent assasin in that he doesn't say much and has his play do the talking," said Feminis. "He will be a four-year starter for us and his motor hasn't stopped from day one. If there is a more exciting player to watch in the country than Jarrod Nowman, I would like to see him play.
"Matt (Derry) has definitely been the leader of our defense and our best defensive player the past two seasons," continued Feminis. "Luke (Schillo) is just a physical back who can wear out a defense, because he keeps getting stronger and stronger with every carry."
Saint Xavier opens on Thursday, September 2, with a 7 p.m. road game in Normal, Ill., against the Illinois State University Redbirds at Hancock Stadium.
