Elgin, Ill. - Despite a hard fought battle by both teams that lasted nearly 100 minutes, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team came up just short of a victory falling 1-0 in overtime to No. 24 ranked Judson College (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Wednesday in Elgin, Ill. The Cougars (1-5 overall/0-1 CCAC) had chances to score with six shots on goal in the game, but the Judson defense did its job to help pick up the win.
The game-winning goal came about eight minutes into the first overtime period when junior forward Milos Bajic took a pass from senior midfielder Mark Howlett and punched it into the top left corner of the goal. Sophomore Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) got the start in goal for Saint Xavier and played well recording five saves. Sophomore midfielder Melchor Castro (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) led the Cougars with two shots on goal.
Saint Xavier (1-5 overall/0-1 CCAC) continues its CCAC slate on Friday, September 21, against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
