CHICAGO -- Michael Wilkinson, a senior at St. Rita High School in Chicago, has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar football team. The 6-foot, 185 pound prep was a defensive back for the 2003 Chicago Catholic League (Blue) champion Mustangs, who fell 20-7 in the semi-finals of the 2003 IHSA Class 6A Football State Playoffs to Bloomington and finished the season with an 11-2 overall record. Wilkinson played under Todd Kuska and was an all-conference selection his senior season. He is the son of Mike and Sue WIlkinson of Chicago. Wilkinson will start his career as a Cougar as a cornerback, but has the potential to play safety at some point in his college career at SXU.

"We have been working on Mike for a long time and it looked like he was going to walk on at one of our state schools," said Saint Xavier University head football coach Mike Feminis. "He was well worth the wait and we are excited to get him. He is a big defensive back, who is a good enough athlete to play corner or safety for us."
