Hammond, Ind. - Junior forward Jacki DiMaggio (Bartlett, Ill./Glenbard North) led the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team with a game-high 24 points Saturday as the Cougars picked up its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) win of the season with a 75-66 win over Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) at the PUC Building in Hammond, Ind. SXU improves to 9-10 overall (1-1 CCAC) with the win, while the Peregrines fall to 10-10 (0-2 CCAC).

In addition to DiMaggio, senior guard Sara Zembrzuski (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) turned in 17 points in the win on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Senior forward Rachel Merkell (Munster, Ind./Munster) was tough on the boards for SXU finishing with a team-high nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./River Forest) recorded a game-high five steals. The Cougar defense helped force 31 Purdue-Calumet turnovers in the game behind 23 SXU steals.

The game was close throughout with Saint Xavier holding a four-point advantage, 30-26, at halftime and outscoring the Peregrines in the second half, 45-40, for the victory. Sarah Vaughn finished with a team-high 16 points to lead Purdue-Calumet, while La'Sharon Watson posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Saint Xavier returns home to face Judson College (Ill.) in non-conference action on Tuesday, January 18, at the Shannon Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
