Evansville, Ind. -- Brad Zientara, a former placekicker on the Saint Xavier University football team who now kicks for the Evansville Bluecats, was named the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance last week in 59-7 home-opener victory against the Waco Marshals. Zientara converted 6-of-7 extra-point attempts and a 42-yard field goal in the game for nine of the Bluecats' 59 points. He has rejuvenized the kicking game of a team that finished near the bottom of every kicking category in the league last season. Already this season, Zientara owns an .818 extra-point percentage and has two field goals of 49 and 48 yards respectively.
During his career at Saint Xavier University from 1999-2002, Zientara set a number of kicking records, including most career points by a kicker (165), most points in a game by a kicker (12) and most field goals made in a season (13, 2002). He was named a Honorable Mention NAIA All-American in 2002 after converting 46-of-48 extra-point attempts and 13-of-21 field goals for 85 points, also a SXU record.
The Merrillville, Ind., native currently lives in Terre Haute, Ind., where he also serves as an assistant football coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
