Men's Track & Field - Mon, Jan. 26, 2009
Charleston, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's indoor track team headed to Charleston, Ill., on Saturday, January 24, to participate in the EIU Mega-Meet hosted by Eastern Illinois University. Top performers in this premier competition, included freshman Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), who took fourth overall in the mile in an impressive time of 4:27.9, sophomore Evan Lowry (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton) took eighth overall in the 1000-meter run in 2:37.2 and freshman KJ Franklin (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee) in the triple jump with a 13.20-meter jump, good enough for fifth-place overall. SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister was impressed with the performances at EIU.
"Rychel runs better each week as he gains experience at this level," said McAllister. "It was up-lifting to see Lowry handle a nice 1000 after a series of injuries, he is getting back to his earlier competitive form. While Franklin is not yet on top of his game, it is obvious to me that he will be one of the better jumpers in the area before long." The Cougars compete at the Titan Invitational at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill., this Saturday, January 31. The overall competition starts at 11 a.m.
