CHICAGO - Senior rightfielder Luke Gregerson (Lyons, Ill./Morton) went 3-for-5 with a double, a grand slam, three runs scored, and six RBI to lead the Saint Xavier University baseball team to a 15-4 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) in seven innings Wednesday at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars (18-23 overall, 9-2 CCAC) improve their April record to 11-6 after starting the season in March with a 7-17 mark.

SXU also got a good day at the plate from freshman first baseman Matt Van Mill (Palos Heights, Ill./Bishop McNamara), who finished 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and three RBI. Junior righthander Ryan Quigley (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) got another good start on the mound for the Cougars throwing six innings and allowing just four hits, three runs, and a walk with nine strikeouts. Quigley picked up his third win (3-4) of the season in Wednesday's victory.

Senior shortstop Brendan Christy (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) got Saint Xavier on the scoreboard quickly when he sent a solo shot over the left field wall in the team's second at-bat. A balk and a RBI single by Van Mill plated two more runs in the first inning to give SXU an early 3-0 advantage. The third inning proved to be a huge one for the Cougars as they racked up 10 runs on eight hits to build a 13-0 lead. Gregerson recorded a two-RBI double and a grand slam in SXU's big third inning.

Purdue-North Central trimmed the lead to 10, 13-3, in the top of the fourth with a three-run homer by sophomore catcher Chris Stocker. However, another RBI single by Van Mill in the fifth and a RBI single by junior catcher Ryan Buchler (Schererville, Ind./South Suburban CC) in the sixth helped keep the game from going past the seventh inning. The Cougars finished the game with 17 hits en route to their 15-run output.

The Cougars (18-23 overall, 9-2 CCAC) continue their conference home stand on Friday, April 21, with a game against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). Start time for Friday's game is 3 p.m. at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago.
