Deerfield, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) finished with team-highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the No. 10 ranked Cougars to a 74-54 road win over Trinity International University (Ill.) Tuesday night in Deerfield, Ill. Tough defense told the tale again as SXU posted 18 steals and held the Trojans to just a 27-percent (15-for-55) shooting performance from the field. TIU finished the game with 32 turnovers.
Sophomore guard Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) also had a big night for the Cougars scoring 15 points in addition to her three steals. Sophomore point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) scored in double figures as well with 11 points. SXU did not shoot particularly well in Tuesday's victory hitting just 37 percent (28-of-76) of its shot attempts, but relied on its stingy defense to keep its lead secure.
Saint Xavier (5-2 overall) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., this weekend to take part in the two-day CCAC Challenge hosted by Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The Cougars will take on No. 6 ranked College of the Ozarks (Mo.) at 6 p.m. on Friday and then face off against Pikeville College (Ky.) Saturday at noon.
