CHICAGO - Jason Banning, a redshirt running back at Northern Illinois University, has transferred to Saint Xavier University and will continue his academic and athletic careers as a member of the Cougar football program under the direction of head coach Mike Feminis. A former prep standout at Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Ill., Banning will have at least three years of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career with the opportunity to play a fourth season due to his previous redshirt status.

"Northern Illinois has some great running backs and Jason just got caught in a numbers game," said Feminis. "He was one of our top running back recruits a couple of years ago when he came out of high school, so our coaching staff is really excited to get a player of his caliber."

Saint Xavier finished the 2004 campaign with an overall record of 7-4 for its fifth straight winning season. The Cougars finished in a tie for second place with Trinity International University (Ill.) in the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League with a 5-2 mark. SXU also ended the 2004 season rated No. 23 nationally in the final 2004 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Football Ratings. It is the fourth straight year the Cougars have finished the season rated in the NAIA's top 25.
