Women's Basketball - Sun, Feb. 6, 2005
Olathe, Kan. - For the first time since the NAIA preseason poll was released in October 2004, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team is back among the nation's top 25 when the NAIA national office released its latest women's basketball Division I ratings poll Tuesday. SXU clamed the No. 25 spot in this week's ratings and is currently in the midst of a seven-game win streak.
After starting the season 2-9 following a strenuous non-conference slate, the Cougars have been on fire winning 13 of their last 14 games. Saint Xavier has also been tough in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) with a league-leading 6-1 record. Not only has SXU been winning, but the wins are coming against quality competition. Thus far this season, the Cougars have defeated No. 18 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on December 22 and No. 23 McKendree College (Ill.) on January 5. Last week, SXU was able to hold Olivet Nazarene University, the nation's highest scoring NAIA team averaging 92.7 points per game, to just 85 points in a 88-85 victory.
The Cougars continue their conference slate tonight at home against Purdue University-Calumet. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
