Women's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 23, 2005
Joliet, Ill. - Senior guard Sara Zembrzuski (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) finished with a team-high 16 points to lead the No. 23 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team to a 81-41 road win over University of St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday night at the USF Recreation Center in Joliet, Ill. SXU has won 11 consecutive games and 17 of its last 18 sitting with a 19-10 overall mark and a league-leading 10-1 mark in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC).

There were plenty of key contributors to Saint Xavier's big victory Tuesday. Freshman guard/forward Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South) scored 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field in addition to recording five rebounds and four steals, while senior forward Rachel Merkell (Munster, Ind./Munster) finished with 12 points and six boards. Junior forward Jacki DiMaggio (Bartlett, Ill./Glenbard North) had eight points and six rebounds, while freshman forward Jennifer Stinich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) chipped in eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Dani Engleman dished out a team-high six assists in the winning effort.

The Cougars took control of the game early leading 44-18 at halftime. SXU used stingy defense to help force St. Francis turnovers, 23 of which came from steals. The Cougars also won the battle of the boards outrebounding the Fighting Saints, 42-33, in the game.

Saint Xavier has just one more regular season game remaining on the schedule and it is a big one. On Saturday, February 26, SXU will travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., to take on Olivet Nazarene University, a team that trails SXU by just a single game in the league standings. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
