CHICAGO - Despite eight kills by junior outside hitter Stephanie Galas (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team could not pick up the victory on "Senior/Parent Night" falling in three straight games 21-25, 22-25, and 22-25 to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. It was the final regular season match for the Cougars, who will advance to next week's CCAC Tournament with the No. 5 seed in the eight-team, single-elimination event.

SXU also got solid efforts out of senior right side Laura Gullickson (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and senior outside hitter Mallory Winkler (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace). Gullickson finished the match with seven kills and 11 digs, while Winkler tallied seven kills and four digs. Senior libero Jenna Guide (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) also had a solid defensive outing recording 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) had six kills and two solo blocks for the Cougars in Tuesday's match.

Saint Xavier (12-32 overall/6-4 CCAC) will likely head to Palos Heights, Ill., on Tuesday, November 11, to face No. 4 seed Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a quarterfinals match of the 2008 CCAC Volleyball Tournament. Start time for the match has yet to be announced.
