Women's Basketball - Mon, Jan. 17, 2005
CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior forward Jacki DiMaggio (Bartlett, Ill./Glenbard North) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday after turning in solid back-to-back performances in the Cougars' two conference games last week. Over the two-game span, DiMaggio averaged 21 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.
In last Tuesday's 77-73 overtime loss to CCAC rival Indiana University-South Bend, DiMaggio was SXU's second leading scorer in the game with 18 points and posted a team-high nine rebounds. She also shot well from the free throw line (6-for-7), which helped keep the game tight in the final minutes of regulation. On Saturday, DiMaggio paced the Cougars with a game-high 24 points as SXU won its first conference game of the season with a 75-66 road victory over Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.). She shot an impressive 7-for-11 (.636) from the field and 10-for-11 from the free-throw line in the winning effort as well as securing six rebounds.
"What Jacki really does for our team has nothing to do with her statistics," said Saint Xavier University head women's basketball coach Bob Hallberg. "She helps lead our team with her physical and mental toughness and brings 100 percent effort to every game she plays. She is very deserving of this honor."
Saint Xavier (9-10 overall, 1-1 CCAC) will face Judson College (Ill.) in non-conference action on Tuesday, January 18, at the Shannon Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
