Women's Basketball - Tue, Aug. 23, 2005
Olathe, Kan. - Saint Xavier University Director of Athletics and Head Women's Basketball Coach Bob Hallberg was recently named the 2005 Region VII Athletics Director of the Year by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) when the national office released the recognition this week. Hallberg will be recognized at the 65th annual NAIA National Convention held from April 6-10 in San Diego, Calif.

"Bob Hallberg is already a legend as a coach," said Dr. Steven J. Murphy, SXU Vice President for University Advancement. "Every team he has coached is characterized by its competitiveness and sportsmanship. As Director of Athletics, Bob has brought those same characteristics to every aspect of the Saint Xavier University athletic program. Saint Xavier University congratulates Bob Hallberg on this well-deserved recognition."

Named SXU's Director of Athletics on May 1, 2001, Hallberg has overseen and developed a number of changes within the Saint Xavier University Athletics Department. These changes include: the acceptance of Saint Xavier University as one of the Champion of Character institutions within the NAIA; the expansion of SXU's athletics programs including the additions of men's cross country, men's and women's track and men's club volleyball; as well as the creation and development of SXU's Student-Athlete Handbook, Student-Athlete Academic Award Banquet, Student-Athlete orientation, Anti-Hazing Policy, and the Student-Athlete Bill of Rights.

The Region VII Athletics Director of the Year award is voted on by directors of athletics from throughout Region VII, which encompasses all NAIA institutions within Illinois and Iowa.

"Any time you are recognized by your peers for your accomplishments, it is a great honor," said Hallberg. "It will be nice to receive an award at the National Convention in April, but the real reason I'm able to accept this honor is due to the great staff at Saint Xavier University, who exemplify what great teamwork is all about."
