Women's Basketball - Tue, Nov. 1, 2005
Olathe, Kan. - With its season opener against NCAA Division I foe DePaul University (Ill.) set for Saturday, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball program and head coach Bob Hallberg were pleased with the team's No. 21 ranking when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently released its preseason top 25 poll. Last season, the Cougars finished with a 21-13 overall record, a first-place tie (10-2 mark) for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season crown, and its third straight berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
"Certainly being ranked No. 21 shows that the program has been recognized by our peers at the national level as a consistent contender," said Hallberg. "Our program has shown that it can play at a high level year-after-year. I have been very impressed with our preseason practice sessions and the team's offensive capabilities. We have a lot of players this season who can score."
Saint Xavier opens its 2005-06 season on Saturday, November 5, against DePaul University (Ill.) at the DePaul Athletic Center in Chicago. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
