Nashville, Tenn. - Behind a combined 38 points from junior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Illinois Institute of Technology), the No. 21 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team split its two games over the weekend at the Trevecca Nazarene University State Farm Classic in Nashville, Tenn. On Friday, the Cougars (2-1 overall) dropped its first game to host Trevecca Nazarene, 83-74, but bounced back on Saturday with a win over Fresno Pacific University (Calif.), 71-60.

Brown set a new Saint Xavier record in Friday's loss to TNU with seven three-pointers en route to a team-high 25-point output. She finished the game 7-for-11 from beyond the arc and 9-for-14 from the field in the game. In addition, fellow junior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) also played tough with 17 points and team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange College) scored in double figures as well for the Cougars finishing with 14 points in the losing effort, while junior guard Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./River Forest) dished out a game-high eight assists.

SXU got off to a slow start shooting only 32 percent (12-for-38) from the field in the first half and fell behind 37-28 at halftime. However, the Cougar offense caught fire in the second half shooting 53 percent (16-for-30) from the field, including a blistering 8-for-14 clip from beyond the three-point arc. SXU was able to take the lead with five minutes remaining in regulation, but a 15-4 run by TNU in the closing minutes sealed SXU's fate.

In Saturday's game, Jackson had another big outing for the Cougars with game-highs of 16 points and four assists. Brown and Heine showed off their offensive skills again scoring 13 points apiece in Saturday's victory. Sophomore center Jennifer Stinich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) was tough on the boards for SXU finishing with seven rebounds, a team-high, off the bench.

Clinging to a two-point lead at halftime (31-29), Saint Xavier shot 46 percent (17-for-37) to outscore Fresno Pacific, 40-31, in the second half. The Cougar defense came up big in the game helping to force 23 FPU turnovers in the game and holding FPU to just 40 percent shooting (23-for-57) in the game. SXU scored 13 of its 71 points off Fresno Pacific turnovers.

Saint Xavier (2-1 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, November 22, with a non-conference road game against Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
