Joliet, Ill. - Sophomore forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 5 when the weekly honor was released by the conference Tuesday. It is the first time this season that the Cougars have had a player receive the offensive recognition and just the second weekly honor for the team in either category with freshman defender Andrea Fischer (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) garnering defensive player of the week honors in early September.
Steinhaus had a hand in six of SXU's eight goals scored on the week. She opened her big week by playing a part in all five Cougar goals in a 5-1 conference victory over University of St. Francis (Ill.) last Tuesday. There, she tallied three goals and two assists.Steinhaus then added a goal in a 3-0 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Saturday. The two wins enabled SXU to remain as one of only two perfect teams in the league at 4-0. Overall, the Cougars are 6-5-1.
Saint Xavier (6-5-1 overall/4-0 CCAC) takes on CCAC foe Robert Morris College (Ill.) in a road match-up on Wednesday, October 8, in Chicago. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
