CHICAGO - Behind a game-high 24 points from junior guard Angie Brown (Chicago, Ill./Illinois Institute of Technology), the No. 21 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team cruised to a 86-59 win over University of Illinois-Springfield (UIS) Wednesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. With the victory, the Cougars improve their overall record to 4-2.
Brown shot an impressive 9-for-14 from the field in the game, including a 5-for-9 clip from beyond the three-point arc. In addition to Brown, sophomore forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange College) also scored in double figures with 15 points. Heine also led SXU on the boards with a game-high nine rebounds. Junior guard Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./River Forest) played well for Saint Xavier dishing out a game-high six assists. The Cougars shot 49 percent from the field (33-for-68) and helped to force 25 UIS turnovers in the game.
SXU jumped ahead early in the ballgame taking a 44-24 advantage into the lockerroom at halftime. The Cougar offense continued to pour it on in the second half shooting an impressive 59 percent (16-for-27) after the halftime break. Junior guard Nicole White, who finished with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, led the Prairie Stars. Junior guard Kimyda Coleman also scored in double figures for UIS with 11 points.
Saint Xavier (4-2 overall) heads to Campbellsville, Ky., to face Campbellsville University on Saturday, December 3, in a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 2 p.m. eastern time.
