CHICAGO - Behind solid pitching performances by sisters Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) and Ashley Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher), the Saint Xavier University softball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Trinity International University (Ill.) Thursday at SXU Softball Field in Chicago. The Cougars (10-12 overall/6-4 CCAC) won the first game, 5-1, with Jalyn throwing all seven innings and allowing just five hits, one run (earned), and two walks with five strikeouts. Ashley then threw a complete game shutout in SXU's 4-0 victory in game two giving up just six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Offensively, Saint Xavier was led by freshman first baseman Courtney Murphy (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) on the day. Murphy racked up six hits, including a double, over the two-game stretch and finished with three runs scored and two RBI. Freshman leftfielder Lisa Gryczeski (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) was also tough at the plate for the Cougars notching a homer and three RBI, while freshman centerfielder Megan Paradzinski (Munster, Ind./Munster) posted five hits and a run scored on the day. SXU blasted 20 hits over the doubleheader and did not commit a single error in the field in either game.

Saint Xavier (10-12 overall/6-4 CCAC) takes to the road on Saturday, April 5, to take on CCAC foe Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start in Milwaukee.
