CHICAGO - Despite a game-high 23 points from sophomore guard Sarah Wilson (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South), the No. 21 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team could not get the win, falling 81-66 to St. Vincent College (Pa.) in second round action of the SXU Holiday Tournament at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (9-4 overall) will continue tourney play in Thursday's third place game at 5 p.m. against Madonna University (Mich.).

Junior guards Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) also scored in double figures for SXU with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Sophomore center Jennifer Stinich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) was tough on the boards for the Cougars with a game-high 15 rebounds in addition to her six points. Saint Xavier shot 32 percent (24-for-76) from the field in the game.

In the first half, St. Vincent was able to pull away late and took a 45-33 lead into halftime behind 46 percent shooting from the field (16-for-35). The Cougars mounted a rally early in the second half and closed to within three before St. Vincent pushed the lead back into double figures. In the final eight minutes of the game, SVC was able to convert its free throws to make up for shooting just 25 percent (8-for-32) in the second half. St. Vincent made 18 of its 20 shots from the stripe after halftime.

In other tournament action Wednesday, University of St. Francis (Ill.) defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), 97-65, behind 21 points by freshman guard Kristina Yedinak. In the second game of the day, junior forward Jackie Braspenninx posted 24 points to lift Aquinas College (Mich.) over St. Ambrose University (Iowa), 75-56. Doane College outlasted Madonna University (Mich.), 48-34, led by sophomore forward Alissa Holland and freshman guard Lindsay Anderson, who each tallied 11 points in the winning effort.

Saint Xavier (9-4 overall) will play at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 29, in the third place game of the SXU Holiday Tournament against Madonna University (Mich.). Doane College (Neb.) and St. Vincent College (Pa.) will meet in tomorrow's 7 p.m. championship game.
