Midlothian, Ill. - Senior right fielder Luke Gregerson (Lyons, Ill./Morton) hit a two-out, two-RBI double in the top of the ninth to help the Saint Xavier University baseball team rally from a late 4-3 deficit and pick up the 5-4 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Robert Morris College Wednesday in Midlothian, Ill. The Cougars improve to 24-23 overall and secure at least a share of the conference title with the win thanks in part to a loss by the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Wednesday. The victory also secured SXU a bye from the 2006 CCAC Tournament and a No. 1 seed for this year's NAIA Region VII Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, May 11.

Gregerson had an outstanding individual performance Wednesday going 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, a run scored, and all five RBI. He also pitched the final two innings of the game and earned the win allowing no hits, no runs, and a walk with two strikeouts. Junior second baseman Craig Buske (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) also had a nice outing Wednesday collecting three hits and two runs scored.

Robert Morris got on the scoreboard first, 1-0, in the bottom of the second scoring on a Saint Xavier error. The Cougars answered with two runs in the top of the third behind a two-RBI double from Gregerson which scored Buske and senior left fielder Chris Gruber (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic). However, the Eagles came right back and took the lead again, 3-2, with two solo homers in the bottom of the third. Gregerson sent out a solo shot of his own in the fifth to tie things up, 3-3, but RMC continued to fight and scored another run off a RBI single in the bottom of the inning to keep the lead, 4-3.

After three scoreless innings, back-to-back singles by freshman centerfielder Don Skelly (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) and Buske, respectively, helped pave the way for Gregerson's late-game heroics. After two straight outs, Gregerson found the gap in what could have been SXU's final at-bat of the game and gave his team the lead for good, 5-4. Although he led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, Gregerson recorded a strikeout and got another Robert Morris batter to ground into a game-ending double play in the bottom of the ninth.

The Cougars (24-23 overall, 15-2 CCAC) takes on CCAC foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) on Thursday, April 27, in a nine-inning road game in Chicago. Start time for Thursday's game is 3 p.m.
