CHICAGO - Behind a double-double performance of 18 points and 12 rebounds by sophomore forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick), the No. 25 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team cruised to a 82-63 non-conference win over visiting Trinity Christian College (Ill.) Saturday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. In addition, freshman guard Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) and senior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) tallied 18 and 17 points, respectively, in the winning effort.
The Cougars shot 51 percent (32-for-63) from the field in the game and connected on 12 of its 14 free throw attempts (86 percent). SXU also took advantage of 15 turnovers by Trinity Christian scoring 22 of its 82 points in the game off the miscues. The Saint Xavier bench came on strong scoring 38 points led by Bolger's 18. The Cougars led 34-22 at halftime and, despite a rally by the Trolls early in the second half, outscored their opponent, 48-41, after the break.
Saint Xavier (12-6 overall) kicks off its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) slate with a road game on Wednesday, January 11, against Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.). Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
