CHICAGO - Junior guard Chris McCormick (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) scored 12 points off the bench to provide the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team with a lift in its 77-47 win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Wednesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (13-7 overall, 1-1 CCAC) led 39-34 at the halftime, but limited the Scarlet Hawks to just 13 points after the halftime break.
In addition to McCormick, several other SXU players had impressive individual performances in Wednesday's victory. Freshman guard Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) led the team in scoring with 18 points, while sophomore forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) was tough down low with 12 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Township West) also had a nice outing Wednesday finishing with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Cougars shot an impressive 49 percent (26-for-53) from the field and out-rebounded the Scarlet Hawks, 34-22, in the game. Hot three-point shooting for IIT kept the game close throughout the first half with Illinois Tech hitting eight of its 15 first-half attempts from beyond the arc. SXU took care of the ball Wednesday as well committing just nine turnovers in the ballgame.
Saint Xavier (13-7 overall, 1-1 CCAC) returns to action on Saturday, January 21, with a CCAC road game against Robert Morris College (Ill.) at the Gentile Center in Chicago. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
