CHICAGO - Senior guard Chris McCormick (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) set a new career-high with 21 points to help lead the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to a commanding 86-53 road victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Wednesday night in Chicago. The Cougars improve to 4-3 in the conference standings with the win and 17-8 overall.
Sophomore forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice) also had a big night for SXU finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) also scored in double figures with 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds. The Cougars had an impressive shooting night connecting on 33 of their 52 field goals (64 percent) in the game, including a 10-for-16 clip (63 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. SXU also dominated on the boards out-rebounding IIT, 32-20, in the game.
Saint Xavier (17-8 overall/4-3 CCAC) returns home on Saturday, February 17, to take on No. 1 ranked and conference rival Robert Morris College (Ill.). The start time for next Saturday's game is 3 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
