Joliet, Ill. - Junior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and sophomore forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) each scored a game-high 19 points to lead No. 22 ranked Saint Xavier University to a 93-69 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road win over rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) in women's basketball action Saturday in Joliet, Ill. In addition, junior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) also played tough for the Cougars (20-7 overall/9-1 CCAC) scoring 18 points.
Freshman forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica) was the other SXU player to finish in double figures netting 10 points. Saint Xavier had the momentum early starting on a 19-4 scoring run in the game's six minutes en route to a 51-27 halftime lead. St. Francis opened the second half on fire and closed to within seven points, 60-53, with 13:30 left to play in the game. However, the Cougars re-grouped and used a 13-0 run to keep their lead in double figures the rest of the way. The Saints were led in scoring by senior forward Amberley Callahan and freshman guard Amanda Mistretta, who each had 14 points.
Saint Xavier (20-7 overall/9-1 CCAC) takes its league-leading conference record to Bourbonnais, Ill., to take on CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Tuesday, February 21. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
