Women's Basketball - Tue, Feb. 21, 2006
Bourbonnais, Ill. - Behind a game-high 22 points from junior guard and reigning Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Week Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), the No. 22 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team used a late second-half rally to pull out an 86-84 conference road victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Tuesday at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill. With the win, the Cougars (21-7 overall/10-1 CCAC) secured the CCAC regular-season crown with a two-game lead and only one game remaining on the season. It also marks the sixth straight season that SXU has hit the 20-win mark, an impressive feat for a team that played its first game in 2000.

In addition to Brown, three other Saint Xavier players scored in double figures in Tuesday's win. Sophomore forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while junior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) chipped in 13 points and five assists. Sophomore forward Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South) also finished in double figures with 11 points. The Cougars took full advantage of their fast break opportunities outscoring the Tigers, 29-4, in transition in the game.

Saint Xavier got off to a hot start early in the game building a 26-18 advantage in the game's first 10 minutes capped by a jumper by Breshock. However, ONU rallied to take the lead late in the first half and took a 41-37 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Olivet Nazarene continued to build on its lead early in the second half and went up by as many as 11 points, 57-46, with just under 14 minutes to play in the game. SXU used a 13-4 run to tie the game, 69-69, on a lay-up by Jackson and the game stayed tight the rest of the way. Jackson kept the pressure on ONU in the final two minutes scoring five of Saint Xavier's final six points to secure the two-point victory.

SXU (21-7 overall/10-1 CCAC) wraps up its regular season with a CCAC home game against Indiana University-South Bend on Saturday, February 25. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
