Men's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 15, 2006
CHICAGO - Despite a career-high 33 points by senior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), the No. 22 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team could not keep pace with the hot second-half shooting of No. 2 ranked Robert Morris College (Ill.) falling, 96-81, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Reiter was 9-for-14 (62 percent) from the field and converted 11 of his 12 free throw attempts to lead the Cougars (18-9 overall/6-3 CCAC). Robert Morris improves to 23-2 overall and 8-1 in the conference.

Besides Reiter, sophomore forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) also scored in double figures posting 14 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) tallied 10 points with four assists. Senior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Township West) finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Cougars shot 49 percent (29-for-59) from the field in the game and had the edge on the rebounds, 33-32, but could not overcome 20 turnovers.

Saint Xavier jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in the game's first three and a half minutes behind seven points from Reiter. Two free throws by Reiter with 10:33 remaining in the first half gave SXU a 27-16 lead, its largest of the game. However, hot three-point shooting brought Robert Morris storming back and the Eagles were able to tie the game, 33-33, on a trey by senior guard Aaron Wellington with just over seven minutes left in the half. RMC used a 9-3 scoring run in the last 2:30 to take a 49-44 halftime lead.

Robert Morris pushed the lead to double figures early in the second half, but Saint Xavier was able to pull within six points, 58-52, with 15 minutes left to play in the game. Unfortunately for the Cougars, this was as close as they would get the rest of the way as RMC shot 62 percent (21-for-34) in the second half to keep SXU at bay. Wellington led the Eagles with 21 points on 7-for-14 shooting from beyond the arc. The Cougars (18-9 overall/6-3 CCAC) heads to Joliet, Ill., on Saturday, February 18, to play CCAC rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
