Olathe, Kan. - Led by head coach Myra Minuskin, the Saint Xavier University softball team recently learned that it would carry the No. 23 ranking into the 2007 season this March when the NAIA released its 2007 NAIA Softball Preseason Ratings from its national office in Olathe, Kan. Last season, the Cougars finished the season ranked No. 15 nationally, but just missed receiving an at-large bid to participate in the 2006 NAIA National Tournament last May.
"I think this preseason ranking is well-deserved," said Minuskin. "This is a very talented team and have several experienced players returning who know what it takes to win at this level. We also have some newcomers, who are eager to contribute. As always though, we will have to prove ourselves on the field."
SXU opens its 2007 season in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, March 11, with an 11 a.m. (eastern) match-up against Philadelphia University (Pa.). It is the first of 12 games the Cougars will play during their annual week-long Florida trip to open the new season.Click here to see the actual 2007 NAIA Softball Preseason Ratings
