Men's Basketball - Sat, Feb. 25, 2006
CHICAGO - Senior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Township West) and senior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) stole the show as the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team cruised to an 81-52 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) home win over Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) Saturday on Senior Day at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Saunders finished with a game-high tying 17 points and six rebounds, while Reiter narrowly missed a triple-double finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. The Cougars end the regular season with an overall record of 20-10 with an 8-4 mark in the conference. In addition to Saunders and Reiter, freshman guard Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) also had a big game for SXU scoring 17 points as well. Saunders and Reiter are the only two senior players on the 2005-06 Saint Xavier University men's basketball roster. The Cougars dominated nearly the entire game jumping out to an early lead and never letting up. SXU shot 61 percent (17-for-28) in the first half to build a 43-23 halftime advantage. Saint Xavier scored 40 of its 81 points in the paint and also recorded 22 points off IUSB turnovers.
SXU (20-10 overall/8-4 CCAC) will host a first round game in the CCAC Tournament on Tuesday, February 28, against a yet to be determined opponent. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
