Deerfield, Ill. - Saint Xavier University forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community) scored both goals for the No. 6 seeded Cougars as they upset No. 3 seed Trinity International University (Ill.), 2-1, in double overtime Tuesday in quarterfinal action of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region VII Tournament in Deerfield, Ill. With the win, SXU advances to the semi-finals to take on No. 2 seeded William Penn University (Iowa) on Friday, November 5, at 1:30 p.m. at SXU stadium. Since Saint Xavier earned the bid to host the semi-finals and finals of the tournament earlier this year, the remainder of the regional games will be played at SXU stadium.

After a scoreless first half, TIU got on the scoreboard first with a goal early in the second period. With just over 18 minutes remaining in regulation, Coby got a pass from sophomore forward Angie Holmes (Shorewood, Ill./Providence Catholic) for the game-tying goal. WIth just three minutes remaining in the second overtime period, Coby got another great pass from freshman defender Caitlin Thornburg (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), but a penalty was called before Coby could attempt a shot. Coby opted to take the penalty kick for SXU and it paid off as she secured the game-winning goal for the Cougars. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessi Brink (Omaha, Neb./Burke) got the starting nod between the posts for SXU and had an impressive outing with 12 saves.

Saint Xavier is currently 14-6-1 overall this season and qualified for the semi-finals of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament last week before being eliminated in a 4-0 loss to No. 1 seed Robert Morris College (Ill.), the No. 1 team in the regional tournament as well.
