CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Freshman of the Year, in addition to being named to the first team of the All-CCAC women's soccer team, when the awards were announced Friday by the conference. Senior defender and team co-captain Amanda Kreifels (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X Catholic) and junior midfielder and team co-captain Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) were also named to the All-CCAC First Team for Saint Xavier University.
Coby led the Cougars in both goals scored and total points scored with 23 and 55, respectively. She played in all 20 games this season for SXU and currently sits at No. 2 all-time in school history for both goals scored (35) and points scored (81) in a single season. Kreifels is a three-time, All-CCAC selection at defender, earning first team honors in 2003 and second team honors in 2002. She has two goals and an assist this season. After earning second team recognition last season, Belmonte moves up to the All-CCAC First Team in 2004. She currently leads the Cougars in assists with 12 and also has seven goals over 20 games.
Saint Xavier currently 13-6-1 overall on the season and awaits a bid from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to participate in next weekend's NAIA Region VII Tournament. SXU will play host for the semifinal and championship games of the NAIA Region VII Tournament this year, which begins on Friday, November 5.
