Men's Basketball - Mon, Mar. 6, 2006
CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University men's basketball team learned Monday that its 2005-06 season continues. The Cougars received an at-large berth to participate in the 2006 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championships at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., beginning March 15. The championship is a 32-team, single-elimination tournament featuring 16 automatic qualifiers from 11 Division I affiliated conferences, one independent qualifier, and 15 at-large berths.

The NAIA National Office will release bracket information with seedings and game times for the 2006 National Championships on Wednesday, March 8, at 5 p.m. This marks the fourth straight national appearance for Saint Xavier University and seventh in the last eight years, all under current head coach Tom O'Malley. The Cougars failed to qualify during the 2002 season. Last season, SXU had the school's best postseason finish earning a spot in the Elite Eight with wins over Langston University (Okla.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), respectively. Saint Xavier enters the 2006 NAIA National Championships with an overall record of 21-11. The Cougars lost to No. 3 ranked Robert Morris College (Ill.), 82-66, on Saturday, March 4, in the semifinals of the 2006 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament.
