CHICAGO - Sophomore forward Angie Holmes (Shorewood, Ill./Providence Catholic) scored the lone goal of the game to give the No. 4 seeded Saint Xavier University women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over No. 5 seed Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in quarterfinal action of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Saturday at SXU stadium in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars improve their overall record to 13-5-1 and advance to the semi-final game Wednesday against the winner of the No. 1 seed Robert Morris College (Ill.)/No. 8 seeded Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) game. Game time has yet to be determined.
After a scoreless first half, Holmes found the back of the net in the 67th minute of regulation off a cross pass from junior midfielder and co-captain Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South). Senior Judy Kazlauskas (Santa Ana, Calif./Fountain Valley) helped earn the shutout as the starting goalkeeper for SXU recording 10 saves in the winning effort.
