Ormond Beach, Fla. - Behind solid pitching performances from senior Ryan Quigley (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and sophomore Dan Miller (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), the Saint Xavier University baseball team opened its 2007 season Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan College (W.V.) in Ormond Beach, Fla. The Cougars (2-0 overall) won the first game, 8-1, and then went on to take the nightcap by a score of 4-1.

Quigley threw the first six innings of game one and allowed just one hit, one run (earned), and five walks with four strikeouts. Senior second baseman Craig Buske (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI to lead the offensive attack for SXU.

In game two, Miller threw a complete game (seven innings) and gave up 10 hits, one run (earned), and two walks, while striking out three batters. Senior catcher Brian Grupp (Granger, Ind./Mishawaka Penn) went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the winning effort, while senior designated hitter Ryan Buchler (Schererville, Ind./South Suburban CC) also finished 2-for-2 with a RBI.

Saint Xavier (2-0 overall) continues play in Florida with two games Sunday. The Cougars will match up against Tiffin University (Ohio) at 10 a.m. (eastern) before taking on Ohio Dominican College (Ohio) at 2 p.m.
