CHICAGO - Senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) has eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in only her third season with the No. 4 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team. Jackson scored 18 points in the team's last game on December 29, 2006, when SXU defeated St. Ambrose University (Iowa), 83-55, to claim the first-place trophy in the Saint Xavier University Christmas Tip-off Tournament at the Shannon Center in Chicago. She now has 1,015 points for her collegiate career.
Jackson is having an impressive senior season averaging 14.4 points and 6.19 assists per game for the Cougars. Her assists average is currently No. 2 nationally in NAIA Division I women's basketball. Jackson is also shooting the ball well. Through 16 games already this season, she has hit 97 of her 190 field-goal attempts for a 51 percent clip. Saint Xavier (15-1 overall) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., Tuesday to take on Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
