Box Score | Season Stats

Junior hitter Kate Bontrager (Indianapolis [Ind.] / Valparaiso, Ind.) led the Cougars (23-3, 9-1 CCAC) with 12 kills on the night, along with nine digs, while setter Courtney Joyce (Western Illinois / Chicago, Ill.) recorded a double-double, with 31 assists and a team-high 12 digs in the win.

Saint Xavier came out firing to start the match, jumping out to an 11-2 lead behind multiple kills from Helena Atton (Herbert Henry Dow HS / Midland, Mich.) and Rory Manion (Florida Atlantic / Elmhurst, Ill.). The Cougars would hold a lead the rest of the way, but after Alex Lambros (Oak Forest HS / Oak Forest, Ill.)' kill at 21-12, the Bees (10-12, 6-4 CCAC) rallied with seven of the next nine points to cut the lead to 23-19. Kills from Atton and Bridget Krasowski (St. Joseph's [Ind.] / Oak Lawn, Ill.) ended the threat and put SXU ahead after one game.

Two more kills from Krasowski gave SXU a 3-0 lead to start game two, but St. Ambrose bounced back, using a 10-2 run to take the lead, 10-5. The Cougars tied the game with five straight points, then Lambros put SXU back in front 11-10 with a solo block.

With the score even at 15-15, Saint Xavier put together a 6-2 run that included two kills from Bontrager to build a 21-17 advantage and forcing an SAU timeout. The Cougars then closed out the game with four of the final five points to take a two-set lead on the night.

The most dominant performance of the match came in game three, as the Bees were unable to string together more than two points in a row throughout the set. Leading by 21-13, the Cougars closed out the win with the final five points, including three kills from three different players, and an ace from Lambros.

The Cougars record their ninth straight-set win over the current 12-match winning streak, the longest such streak in program history. SXU looks to make it 13 in a row on Thursday night, when they travel to face Trinity International. First serve from Deerfield, Ill. is set for 7:00 p.m.
