CHICAGO, Ill. – Setter Courtney Joyce (Western Illinois / Chicago, Ill.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season, as Saint Xavier earned their eighth straight victory, in straight sets over Trinity International on Wednesday night, 25-10, 25-23, 25-16.

Joyce tallied 33 assists along with 11 digs to help lead the Cougars (19-3, 5-1 CCAC), who match their longest win streak in five seasons. Rory Manion (JR/Elmhurst, Ill.) collected 11 digs to pace the Cougar attack, while Mariana Ayala (Navarro CC [Tex.] / Bayamon, Puerto Rico) picked up 17 digs to lead the back row.

SXU jumped out to a big early lead in the opening set, posting an 11-2 advantage behind nine kills and an ace from Joyce. Manion posted six of her 11 kills by the mid-point of the first game, before another run of five straight kills increased the Cougar lead to 18-6. Back-to-back attacking errors would end the set to give the home side the early win.

Following a Trinity timeout at 8-3 in game two, the Trojans (12-11, 2-4 CCAC) responded, working their way back into the match and tying the score at 17-17 with a four-point run. Three straight points for Joyce - a kill and two straight aces – gave Saint Xavier a 22-19 advantage, but Trinity rallied again to even the score at 23-23. Kate Bontrager's (Indianapolis [Ind.] / Valparaiso, Ind.) kill on the next play earned the Cougars set point, and a TIU attacking error tipped the closest set of the night in favor of the Cougars.

As game three went back and forth in the early points, SXU used a nine-point rally to pull away at 16-9, a run that included three aces from Alex Lambros (Oak Forest HS / Oak Forest, Ill.). The Cougars closed out the night by taking seven of the final nine points, with Bontrager making the final kill to earn the victory.

The Cougars take their third consecutive straight-set victory, and have won their last 12 sets in a row. SXU has also not dropped a set inside the Shannon Center since Aug. 29 of this season.

Just three regular season home matches remain on the schedule for the Cougars, beginning with next Tuesday, October 10, when SXU rematches with St. Xavier. First serve with the Bees is set for 7:00 p.m.
